Day One - Orvieta and Arrival

We drove slowly, slowly from Rome towards Le Pianore and stopped at Orvieto along the way. This beautiful medieval town was a great stop to make as we traveled from the airport and helped everyone begin to acclimate to the Tuscan way. One of many grape orchards that we were to see while in the region. This was below the city walls.

One of the many outdoor areas where food is served.

Fresh fruit and produce in the window.

The doorways.....

and the window planters are everywhere, and beautifully maintained.

Beautiful buildings built into the mountainside as we drive.

Here is the main Duomo, and every city has one designated church that would be the main church. We photographed the outside and were respectful of not taking shots inside the church. The architecture design was spectacular with carvings, mosaics, paintings and sculptures blended into one amazing image after another. You get a true appreciation for how "short" our American history is, and how deep the Italian and European history runs.

John and Muriel pose.....I believe there is one of John's ancestors carved into the door just above his head....well, maybe not!

A beautiful organ inside!

Excellent stained glass!

We did a quick stop at this location which had natural springs for people to bath in. This was the original bath that is no longer in use, but you could still see the natural springs visible as the water source.

Soaking feet in the springs outflow.

Here is our cosy fire as we enjoy our first dinner at Le Pianore.

Jane, well.......being Jane!

Our dining room, and where farm animals were kept, in the first floor of the home. This protected your property and also helped provide a natural heat.

Elena is the host at Le Pianore, and Antonio, un amico di Vincenzo was our guide and companion during our stay in Italy.

Grappa is our friend after a long day!
